I usually blog about wedding related subjects, but, today I am taking a quick diversion to make a confession. I am a Twitter Addict.
I went on Twitter to see what all the fuss was about. You can’t turn on the tv or radio without hearing follow me on Twitter. It was March of this year when I decided to give it a try. I set up my account and people started following me. I wasn’t quite sure what to make of it or how to decide who to follow. I started following some of them back Tweeting about once a day saying stuff like running a sale on my site, working on some new items not knowing what to expect.
Everyone had something to say, I just wasn’t sure how to jump in. Slowly started to meet some wedding people I had previously met on Yahoo Groups and such. Still didn’t know why people were ignoring me, I didn’t know about the @, otherwise how do they know you are talking to them, @weddingwindow gave me a few tips, yeah, now I am getting the idea. Wow I had 100 people in my Twitter Stream. Then I met @buzzedition she rocked my world and showed me how fun Twitter could be. At the time she had something like 20K followers, it blew my mind, how did she do it, how do you keep track of what is going on. So I jumped in and started following more and more people that Susan had suggested, had something like 200 followers I was overwhelmed with information.
Slowly started to meet some more tweeps who made the time worthwhile, @krystynchong, @mayhemstudios , but some days they tweeted so much I was overwhelmed, they seemed to be having a great time, so I sat by and watched and read their streams, clicked on the links and followed their suggestions, Retweeting them asking questions. Then I came across @fawnthomas we started tweeting and engaging with others @terrinakumura. Now Twitter is a cocktail party @okema, @favorsbydorinda, @1800tuxes . I have met and networked with many fun people and I am looking forward to meeting many more.
Thank you Twitter for lists, they are very helpful. So follow me on Twitter @ladybead, but, look out I can be quite chatty at times so put me on your chatty tweeps list, I follow back all tweeps who engage, so if you’re following me and I am not following back tweet me, some days I am overwhelmed, but I am getting better at this all the time. But remember Like someone once said, “We don’t want you to sell us, everyone on Twitter has something for sale, but say you are at a party you wouldn’t walk up to someone and say “Hey ya wanna buy my stuff”, well Twitter is the same way”.
Yes, I am a Twitter Addict, fortunately there’s a group that, it’s called Twitter
Twitter has even given me the courage to show my actual photo, in real time, not one of me 20 years ago.
WElcome out of your shell darlin :)
ReplyDeletehope you continue to enjoy yourself on twitter.
Funny that you should call it a "cocktail party". That's pretty much the exact metaphor I came up with yesterday as a way of encapsulating the Twitter experience.
ReplyDeleteJust goes to show that no how smart or clever you think you are, there's always someone else out there the same or moreso. ;-)
Yeah, some days I just have too much fun, what did I do before Twitter, my hubby says when I am on Twitter I am always smiling.
ReplyDeleteI love the title of your piece! Yes, Twitter can become a religion of sorts, can't it? So glad you're fully immerse in the Twittersphere now. I look forward to sharing many memorable tweets together ;->
ReplyDeleteAmber @wordsdonewrite
Thanks for the comment looking forward to your tweets as well. Catch ya in the Twittersphere!
ReplyDeleteYep, the Twitter Golden Rule. Try to think of how you want to be tweeted before you tweet.
ReplyDeleteI am now a new follower :) Looking forward to your tweets.
Ryan
Well I am happy to know that I am not the only one enjoying myself so much! :) I look forward to signing on and laughing and crying with my twitter friends. and YES its a cockttail party by the end of the day and a tea party somewhere in the middle. Thanks for sharing and including me in your day!
ReplyDeleteI was overwhelmed by hundreds of followers too (and not all of them area real people) but creating groups in a Twitter client or the Twitter Lists help a lot
ReplyDeleteAlways live by the Golden Rule, looking forward to your Tweets as well.
ReplyDeleteYes, I agree, Twitter is a great way to get together and share and meet fun new people
ReplyDeleteI loved reading this post. I find myself sometimes in the same position as you when you first started. I would sit there and rack my brain over what to write in the "What are you doing?" box in under 140 characters. Then, I realized, the best way to engage is to jump right in. : ) I'm heading over to Twitter right now to follow you!
ReplyDeleteCome on over the water fine.
